Ammonia emissions in pig farming:
A crucial parameter to control
The control of ammonia emissions in pig farming is crucial, particularly as far as the prevention of respiratory diseases is concerned.
Dietary supplementation based on saponin-rich plants, such as Yucca schidigera, is a solution to reduce ammonia emissions. However, the difficulty of access and the cost of this plant leads to search for alternatives. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of Norponin® Opti, an additive based on saponin plants to replace Yucca Schidigera.
Field evidence
Norponin® Opti in fattening pigs
A trial was conducted in a pig farm in France, on 486 10 weeks-old pigs that weighed 30 kg. The pigs were evenly seperated into 3 groups. First, the Control Group (CTL) with 162 pigs that were fed a standard diet. Second, the Yucca s. Group with 162 pigs that were fed a standard diet supplemented with 120g/T of Yucca Schidigera. Third, the Norponin® Opti Group with 162 pigs that were fed a standard diet supplemented with 120g/T of Norponin® Opti.
The results of this trial showed that the supplementation with Norponin® Opti at 120g/T is more efficient than Yucca Schidigera with the same inclusion rate.
Our 100% natural solution to reduce ammonia emissions
Norponin® Opti
Norponin® Opti is a solution combining different saponin-rich plants that is as efficient as Yucca schidigera in reducing ammonia emissions.
